Garowe
Resort.
A hospitality landmark in northern Somalia, tuned to a hot, dry climate, and to a brief that asked for both a regional destination and a quiet retreat.
The entrance is intentionally civic: a generous shaded forecourt, deep vertical fins shading the lobby, a long water feature drawing visitors in. Behind that, the building turns inward, pool decks at the spine, shaded courtyards branching off, room corridors that always end on a planted void rather than a wall.
Materials are local where possible: regional limestone for the fins, dark timber screens for the soffits, a deep brick base course that lifts the building off the dust line. The interior palette stays light and matte so the building can be cleaned by hand without losing its finish.
Phase one (the main hotel and one restaurant) opened in 2025. Phase two adds the spa wing, banquet hall and an extension of the public plaza, handover late 2026.
